It would be pretty hard to argue with this Progressive. His depth of intellect and thought process are impossible to counter. My best response could only be, "I'm ambivalent and I can't make up my mind, either."

Don't be too harsh on the poor guy. This is one of the most often misquoted political phrases.
According to the most detailed reference on the subject (note to non-history buffs -- ignore link), the actual Benjamin Franklin quote is:
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"
A Google search for that exact original phrase returns 177,000 hits.
The most popular misquoted version, due to the fact that it is inscribed on a plaque in the Statue of Liberty, reads:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
This version returns 200,000 Google hits, 23,000 more than the original.
Your pictured demonstrators version? 8 Google hits. At least he's not completely alone.
He was probably shooting for the popular abridgement:
"Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither"
which results in 10,200 Google hits. Substitute "safety" for "security" and you still get 441.
